Bratz Reworked: Figures of inspiration

Vancouver artist Wendy Tsao has transformed Bratz dolls to resemble strong role models like Malala Yousafzai and JK Rowling, and to look like lesser-known women such as the first female Canadian astronaut, Roberta Bondar, and UN messenger of peace Jane Goodall. Each doll is accompanied by a quote, and they form a collection called ''Mighty Dolls".Bratz dolls have been criticised for revealing outfits and unrealistic body proportions. Tsao removes the dolls' make-up and repaints them.She told i100: "I wonder if a child plays with this doll, will she have other conversations with her friends or family about this inspiring person and think about and learn things that she might not have if she played with say, a Bratz doll or Barbie or Disney character doll?"Tsao plans to sell her own dolls on websites such as ebay...
