Delicious starter to food show

Celebrity chef Rick Stein spent his first night in Durban in an apron in the kitchen. Granted, the kitchen was that of the five-star Oyster Box hotel, the distinctive apron was a gift and he was a guest at the chef's table.Joining him were some of the other famous names who will be running demonstrations, cooking and signing books at this year's Good Food and Wine Show at the Durban Exhibition Centre, which runs from today until Sunday.Executive chef of the Oyster Box Kevin Joseph treated guests, including Stein and his wife, Sarah; Brent Owens, the winner of the sixth MasterChef Australia; and Giggling Gourmet Jenny Morris, to a slap-up meal of Durban delights, which included starters of flame-grilled oysters and crispy tandoori chicken. This was followed by a spread of curries - South Indian-style crab curry, traditional Natal lamb curry, home-made paneer chutney and sugar-bean curry, washed down with craft beer and Bouchard Finlayson wines.Desert was the ubiquitous Bombay Crush, with the appreciated addition of honey liqueur."I thought they would be more comfortable in a familiar environment," said Joseph, when asked why he held the event in the kitchen during a busy service. "But it was also a great opportunity to allow our chefs to meet and cook for their heroes."..
