Sake may help fight radiation

Alcohol is generally pretty bad for you - and so is radiation. Science journal Plos One said researchers in Japan decided to pit the two against each other to figure out if sake, a Japanese rice wine, helps fight radiation poisoning.Drinking appears to influence adverse reactions to radiation among Japanese nuclear-plant workers. And research shows drinking sake helps - at least if you are a mouse.Researchers gave a group of mice sake. Another was given ethanol. A third stayed sober. The drunk mice were exposed to radiation and their livers seemed to do a better job at fighting the effects of radiation.''The findings suggest that moderate sake consumption may promote antioxidative activity after exposure to stress, such as radiation, limiting the adverse effects," researchers said...
