Rivonia treason trialist calls for ANC brass to be ejected 'top to bottom'
Rivonia treason trialist Denis Goldberg has called on ANC members to rid the ruling party of its entire "corrupt" leadership.
Speaking on the BBC's Radio 5 Live at the weekend, Goldberg said corruption in the party had reached crisis level and that national ANC leaders were no better at resisting the temptations of graft than their local-government counterparts.
"Corruption is a problem. I personally believe, and I will say it publicly, as I do in South Africa, that the members of the ANC need to renew the leadership from top to bottom.
"I'm not going to name names, because it's a problem throughout, at national, provincial and local government level," Goldberg said.
He chastised ANC leaders for placing their own interests above those of people they had to serve.
"Let us focus on the needs of our people, not on your needs as new political leaders, with access to power and therefore wealth and personal enrichment, which robs us of our freedom," he said.
