The first animated film festival in Africa ended yesterday after a week of film screenings of local and international productions at the Labia Theatre in Cape Town. The Cape Town International Animation Festival also held industry workshops and presentations by local and international film-makers including award-winning directors and industry veterans from studios like Dreamworks.Stick Man, a film which was animated by Cape Town animation studio Triggerfish had its African premiere. On Christmas Day in the UK last year the film was watched by 9.27 million people on BBC 1.The festival also had an awards ceremony for animations made by students.The winning animations will fly the flag for South Africa at the Cartoons on the Bay Pulcinella Awards in Venice, Italy, this year."We're going out there to take South Africa as a special focus country this year. So we're going to take a reel of South African short films and movies, and we're going to show them out there and some of these are going to be the winners of the student awards," said festival director Dianne Makings...
