Johannesburg mayor Parks Tau is set to deliver his last state of the city address. It is expected to highlight the council's successes over the past five years and provide assurances that the city is committed to dealing with service-delivery backlogs.Just a week after unveiling a statue of former president Nelson Mandela in Palestine, Tau has to deliver a message that should set the tone ahead of the local government elections in August. The city has seen a number of recent violent protests that affected the delivery of services. One of the most controversial was the strike by the SA Municipal Workers' Union last month, which left the city in a pile of filth. In March, cars were torched, businesses looted and roads barricaded with rocks and burning tyres when Zandspruit residents protested the cutting of illegal electricity connections.During his administration Tau has positioned Johannesburg as a modern, smart city .The city expanded its Bus Rapid Transit system to reduce congestion and piloted its plans for limited vehicle access during the World Ecomobility Festival last year.Johannesburg is investing R100-billion in infrastructure over the next 10 years...
