Mdluli making moves to be top cop again

Suspended crime intelligence boss Lieutenant-General Richard Mdluli is plotting his return to office. The Times has learnt Mdluli has taken action to force the SAPS to complete his internal disciplinary hearing and return him to his position - after five years on paid suspension.Mdluli's lawyer, Ike Motloung, said they approached the Safety and Security Sectoral Bargaining Council this month to compel the police to complete his disciplinary hearing. He said the matter had been postponed.Since 2011 Mdluli has been suspended with full pay, costing taxpayers nearly R10-million.Motloung said the disciplinary hearing should have been completed within 90 days of the suspension. Police spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said they would not subject Mdluli to a "trial by media", stating: "The matter remains an employer-employee relationship issue which is dealt with internally."Mdluli has been accused of looting the SAPS crime intelligence unit's secret slush fund - an allegation he denies - and being covertly involved in the removal of former Hawks head Anwa Dramat and the suspension of Independent Police Investigative Directorate head Robert McBride.Mdluli was also accused of being involved in the murder of an ex-girlfriend's lover, Oupa Ramogibe.However, an inquest found there wasn't enough evidence to charge him for the murder. He still faces an internal hearing over some of the allegations.In 2013 Pretoria High Court Judge John Murphy instructed police to reinstate all criminal charges against Mdluli...
