Sundowns win big at PSL Awards, Khama Billiat voted Footballer of the Season

Mamelodi Sundowns stole the show at the Premier Soccer League awards last night, claiming virtually all the individual honours in another display of their dominance this campaign. Khama Billiat was the biggest winner, scooping the top two awards - footballer of the season and Absa Premiership players' player of the season.He also took home the midfielder of the season award for a personal haul of R450000 in prize money.The footballer of the season award is voted by the coaches of the top-flight teams, while the players' player prize is chosen by Billiat's fellow professionals, an indication of the high esteem he is held in by both teammates and opponents.Pitso Mosimane deservedly grabbed the coach of the season award for leading Sundowns to the league title and Telkom Knockout. It is the second time in three seasons "Jingles" has claimed the prize.Sundowns' Dennis Onyango collected the goalkeeper of the season award, whereas Thabo Nthethe was named defender of the season and player of the tournament in the Telkom Knockout.The young player of the season award went to Mpumalanga Black Aces' Maphosa Modiba, whereas the goal of the season was scored by Bidvest Wits youngster Ben Motshwari, who was rewarded for his magical strike against Chippa United in October.Collins Mbesuma collected the Absa Premiership top goalscorer award, though he admitted there was little to cheer in a total of 14 goals for the campaign.Orlando Pirates-bound Thabiso Kutumela was the leading scorer in the National First Division - when he was with Boroka FC - with 18 goals.Ajax Cape Town defender Cecil Lolo, who died in a car accident in October, was posthumously awarded the MTN8 last man standing trophy for best player. Lolo's mother, Noxabiso, collected the prize.The Nedbank Cup awards for player and young player of the tournament went to Supersport United's Jeremy Brockie and Baroka FC's Ndivhuwo Ravhuhali respectively.Thando Ndzandzeka, who was in the middle during this past weekend's Nedbank Cup final, was named referee of the season, while Zakhele Siwela won the top assistant award...
