Witches, wizards and death- eaters swept through South African malls at midnight for the global release of the much-hyped new Harry Potter book yesterday. From as early as 7pm on Saturday, hundreds of book-lovers queued outside bookstores to get their hands on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II - a book based on a new play that features Potter as an adult. It's been almost 10 years since the 2007 release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.Online shop takealot.com's chief marketing officer Julie-Anne Walsh said the book would be the biggest literary launch of the year."With more than 500million sales worldwide, Harry Potter is a phenomenon of unmatched size and scope. Africa, like the rest of the world, is totally Potter-mad."As with many of his fans Potter has now become an adult and has three children with his wife Ginny Weasley. He still has his trademark round-rimmed glasses and the scar on his head, but must help his youngest son Albus confront the family's dark past. The book's global kick-off was timed to coincide with its launch at midnight in London, after the world premiere of the new play in London's Palace Theatre. July 31 is also author JK Rowling's birthday."I expected to look silly as a grown woman dressed as a witch in a mall at midnight but I was in absolute awe when I arrived at Gateway Shopping Centre," said Harry Potter devotee Elaine Moodley."Fans really came out. I was blown away by their devotion. I felt like I was a part of something big. Well, it is big. It is Harry Potter."..
