SA deserves better handling of Pravin Gordhan affair

Be vigilant! This is the code we should all subscribe to as we deal with politicians and public officials behaving badly. It is important that this nation interrogates and monitors all spheres of our public life. This is to safeguard the future of our children, who must inherit a country that is full of hope, and to realise desire for a better tomorrow. That is why we should discuss, seek answers and demand that our officials clear the air about Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. It cannot be that the elite police unit, the Hawks, can be loosed in a way that adversely affects all of us. This nation deserves better. If there is a case for Gordhan to answer, the proper channels must be used and all care must be taken to handle the case with professionalism. What we have seen in the past two days is chaos. The centre is no longer holding.Gordhan is no ordinary Joe on a street corner, on the run from the law. He represents a crucial government entity and anything related to his status has a direct effect on our economy. We expect the Hawks and the police minister to have the professionalism to deal with this case without playing to the public gallery. How many times must Gordhan answer questions? It is also troubling that President Jacob Zuma is missing in all of this.As the leader of the government his silence is deafening and raises questions about his role in this sorry affair. We are at a point at which we should confront officials who act against our interests. It cannot be "business as usual" for those who make their living from taxpayers' money. We call on Zuma and his cabinet to intervene and handle Gordhan's case properly, by the rule of law.To continue sending him letters of demand while failing to charge him is a tired and hollow strategy.Charge him or let him do his job...
