Patty Monroe dreams about dominating the continental hip-hop industry. Although the 21-year-old oozes positivity, she went through a "dark time" last year when she moved to Johannesburg from Cape Town. But now the rapper, who recently released her single Castles, "wants to change the world"."I want to be the Michael Jackson of Africa . I'll do that by being the best me I can be and the rest will follow. I'll be the last to go to bed and the first to wake up," she said.Monroe performed in Kenya and Uganda in August.Castles is from her album, which she hopes to release later this year. The preliminary title is Mal-etjies, the term for her fans because "you have to be a little bit mal [mad] to love Patty".Not wanting to dwell on the challenges she faced last year, she said her struggles were the same as those of any other woman in a male-dominated industry. Her rude awakening was last year when she first came to Johannesburg."There was a time when I didn't want to do this any more; there was a lot of self doubt and it was a scary place.""Tough love" from a friend helped her get through, she said.Monroe will be at the MTV Africa Music Awards at the weekend...
