The festive season's over and by now you've probably returned to your plantations. Fret not, there is an embarrassment of new music to dilute the tedium. Here are five relatively new tracks to help you do just that:

BAD AND BOUJEE FEATURING LIL UZI VERT

Migos

You may have fallen into the trap of thinking that the most important speech at this year's Golden Globes was made by Meryl Streep. In actuality, it was Donald Glover who made the most important proclamation of the night when he called the Atlanta rap trio "the Beatles of our generation", laying emphasis on their hit Bad and Boujee. Built on a sticky Metro Boomin trap beat, it is everything we've come to expect from Migos; ratchet, flippant and oozing swag. Perfect for psyching yourself up to chat to your crush.

MY BOO

Flume featuring Vince Staples, Kucka, Ngaiire and Vera Blue

Who says pop music has to be some generic warbling perpetrated by a future Head and Shoulders model? While Flume does have Disney channel hair, this Australian producer has managed to produce a funky pop song that sounds like a group of appliances from the 1980s are having an orgy and it sounds damn good. Play it to lift your spirits or when delivering some doughnuts to your new love.

NEEDLESS

Kratos Himself

Close your eyes and imagine serenity. What would it sound like? If you want to get an idea, find this song and head somewhere with a nice sunset and some headphones. In Needless, this little known Dutch electronica producer-cum-artist has managed to create a smooth, luxurious and airy track that's as calming as it is compelling. Perfect as a soundtrack to the new meditation class you signed up for.

LIGHT

San Holo

For the most part EDM is dead, or at the very least in its final throes. Trap music and Future bass have eagerly replaced it as the mainstream dance music that everyone fist bumps to. San Holo is among those leading this new school of sound.Light is a perfect example of how a dance track doesn't need to sound like 100 laser beams in an anti-gravity chamber. It's soft, but exciting and, while it still retains some EDM characteristics, you can clearly hear the evolution. Perfect for a pool party.

ACHE

FKA Twigs

Technically, this song is not new. Ache forms part of FKA Twigs's very first offering EP1, which was in 2012. But the album vanished and only resurfaced near the end of last year, so unless you're a hardcore fan you're unlikely to have heard it. Ache is a sensual experiment in R&B-infused electronic pop. Sonically, it feels like slowly dripping body chocolate over a naked torso. It's what one imagines when one hears the word ''writhing". Perfect for the business end of date night.
