Letter: Reduce inequality by fixing education system
The Gini coefficient ratio for South Africa shows that we have one of the most unequal societies, particularly as far as incomes are concerned.
Thomas Picketty warned that inequality is unsustainable and can only lead to disaster. He also said the best way to change the inequality of a society is through improved education.
I believe him on both matters, but it seems our ANC leaders are not concerned. The education system is spiralling downwards. The matriculation exam is a farce due to the government's "quick fix" solution of dropping pass rates. How can prospective employers be expected to hire young people with this sort of education?
Parents and pupils alike should be demanding a world-class education system and top-class educators. It should also be the top priority goal of the government.
