Cornflake girl Tori Amos, will be performing in South Africa in November.

The eight time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter-pianist, made famous by her song Cornflake Girl was famous in the 90s and is known for her intensely personal lyrics, and experimental music.

The tour is based on her latest album, Night of Hunters, which will be released this month. The album is inspired by select classical pieces spanning the past 400 years.

She says: “I have used the structure of a classical song cycle to tell an ongoing, modern story.”

The protagonist, Amos says, is a woman who finds herself in the dying embers of a relationship. “In the course of one night, she goes through an initiation of sorts that leads her to reinvent herself, allowing the listener to follow her on a journey to explore complex musical and emotional subject matter.

“One of the main themes explored on this album is the hunter and the hunted, and how both exist within us.”

Aside from being well-known for her flaming red hair and off-kilter voice, Amos, born Myra Ellen Amos, is also a fervent women’s rights activist.

She will be performing in Johannesburg and Cape Town on Saturday, November 12 at and on Sunday, November 13 at the Theatre of Marcellus, Emperors Casino; and on Thursday, November 17 at the Grand Arena, GrandWest Casino.

Booking for the Tori Amos – Night of Hunters Tour is open at Computicket and are priced from R390.
