Jessica Simpson's reality show 'Fashion Star' has been axed by NBC after the first two seasons failed to pull in acceptable viewing figures.

The TV series, which sees a group of fashion designers go head-to-head to score a multi-million dollar contract, giving them a chance to have their garments sold in American's largest retail stores, has been scrapped by NBC after the first two seasons failed to pull in viewers.

The programme was given a revamp earlier this year when it brought in Louise Roe to replace executive producer Elle Macpherson as the host, and the network swapped the airing time from Tuesday to Friday night.

The 32-year-old fashion designer features as a mentor on the show alongside her pal Nicole Richie and menswear guru John Varvatos.

However, Simpson - who gave birth to her son, Ace Knute, last month - has other things on her mind at the moment as she wants to lose her baby weight and slim down before tying the knot with her fiancé, Eric Johnson.

Simpson signed a $4 million deal with Weight Watchers following the birth of her first daughter, 15-month-old Maxwell, after gaining 60 pounds during her pregnancy, but was forced to put her contract on hold after falling pregnant again. She is expected to resume the position later this summer.
