Record label boss and businessman Sbu Leope has branded a report about him erecting a stand to promote his energy drink at Flabba's memorial as 'distasteful lies.'

Sunday World has reported that Sbu shamelessly promoted his new energy drink at Flabba's memorial last week.

According to the weekly, Sbu erected a stand filled with cans of the drink and associated paraphernalia outside the entrance to Bassline, where the memorial was held. The newspaper called Sbu out for acting inappropriately.

"DJ Sbu is another one who needs to be taught etiquette. This man does not listen. He had a whole display of his energy drink just outside the venue...his efforts scream desperation," the newspaper wrote.

Sbu is on suspension from Metro FM after he took a can of his energy drink with him on stage to present an award. The move was slammed by SABC bosses, who said Sbu abused their airtime as only sponsors were allowed to be promoted.

Sbu took to his social network profiles to deny promoting his drink.

"To spread such distasteful lies about my presence at Flabbas memorial is uncalled for. These are the gentlemen I was with the whole time at the memorial to MOURN & nothing else.

"It's sad what journalism has been turned into. If the journo who wrote that piece has whatever personal issues with me, its unfortunate that you would choose to take advantage of such a tragedy to assassinate my character.

"This is a tough & sad period for everyone in our industry not to mention close friends & family. To single me out as a heartless opportunist is both disappointing & unfair," said Sbu.
