She may be one of the country's finest actresses but Masasa Mbangeni has had more than her fair share of social media hate over the years.

Speaking to Destiny magazine recently, Masasa reflected on hatred she has received on social media and recalled how in the early days of her career fans would often pick on her, going as far to ask her bosses at Scandal! to drop her from screen because she was "too ugly."

  •

"In the early days of my career, I used to suffer really bad bullying on social media: fans of the show (Scandal!) would demand that I be removed from it because I was ‘too ugly,’” she told the magazine.

Masasa has spoken before of her battles with depression, telling fans in an Instagram post that she went through downers that left her with "a lack of motivation to get up and live, never mind move."

  • Masasa reflects on overcoming a difficult time in her life It's been eight months since actress Masasa Mbangeni first opened up about battling with depression. But the good news is that Masasa seems to be in a much better space.

The actress said that she was able to get over social media criticism by learning to love herself more.

"It was only through loving myself as I am that my internal world changed- and thus my external world too," she told the magazine.

  • Masasa recalls her turbulent acting journeyActress Masasa Mbangeni took a trip down memory lane to remember all the struggles she’s had to face‚ which includes being called a “gold digger” and “psychopathic b**ch.”

This is not the first time that Masasa has spoken out on the hate she has received from social media trolls. In May, she revealed that she has previously had to deal with people calling her "a decadent actress‚ a gold digger‚ a psychopathic b**ch and a spoilt brat."

"I have been called ‘a decadent actress‚ a gold digger‚ a psychopathic b**ch‚ a spoilt brat‚’ but then I remember who I really am‚ the sacrifices that have been made for me to pursue my calling. Yes‚ one gets weary and yes‚ you start to believe that you're a psychotic gold digging bitch at times but then God sends His angels to remind you‚ in the midst of the noise‚ that you are a good person," she said.
