In a revealing interview actress Pearl Thusi opened up about her turbulent relationship with her father after her mother's death.

Pearl held nothing back when she took the hot seat with Anele Mdoda on Real Talk.

Speaking candidly Pearl, who is currently based in the US, reflected on her humble beginnings and gave fans a snapshot of the personal struggles she's faced.

Growing up Pearl and her dad had a very turbulent relationship, which she says resulted in her "running away" to an extent.

"I was a daddy's girl and then as I grew there's nothing more heartbreaking than realising your father is a mere human being who makes mistakes. Your father is the first man to ever really disappoint you ," she said.

Pearl explained that her relationship with her dad started deteriorating just before her mom's death and when her mom passed away things got worse.

"It got to a point where my father and I could not stand each other, and I feel like I ran away from home, into marriage even."

But looking back Pearl said that the challenges they faced helped them build a stronger bond today.

"I think the conflict we had was important to be honest with each other and to build a friendship. My dad and I have been through a lot together but we're like partners now. Over the last four years we've developed a very strong bond," she added.

Pearl also revealed that she feels like she let her sisters down by leaving but is comforted by the fact that she can now support them because she chose to chase her dreams.
