While South Africa waits with bated breath for new music from Malaika, Bongani Nchang has gone and dropped a new gospel album... (yes, alone).

Many have been wondering where the singer has disappeared to. Even his fellow group member, Tshedi Mholo, told TshisaLIVE that it has been months since she last spoke to him.

"Last time I spoke to Bongani was around March/April when I asked him if we could meet, and he asked what would we be talking about. I told him that we would talk about Malaika. And he just never pitched," she said in September.

  • Tshedi Mholo unravels the mystery of Malaika's silence: Egos, power struggles and moneyIf ever a band were ripe for a ride on the reunion carousel, it's award-winning afro-pop group Malaika. The last time fans got to see them performing was in 2013 at a Jazz Festival in Moretele Park‚ Pretoria. But sadly‚ since then‚ lead singer Tshedi Mholo and bandmate Bongani Nchang have not only stopped performing together, they're also not on speaking terms.

However, as it turns out, he was in studio cooking up a new gospel album, called Wonders of Mercy.

He revealed in a statement that the new music offering was inspired by his single Ke Tshepile Wena.

"I finally decided to heed the calling after I had been avoiding it for some time," he said.

Yeah, we get that... but will ever see Bongani back on Malaika? The long wait continues...
