I'm still going strong, says Joost van der Westhuizen on 'oxygen reports'

Former rugby great Joost van der Westhuizen, who suffers from motor neuron disease, this week announced he was undergoing a revolutionary treatment to help regain his strength and prolong his life after doctors gave him five years to live.

A message posted to Joost van der Westhuizen's Twitter account on Friday afternoon moved to allay fears that the former Springbok's health had taken a turn for the worse and had been' placed on oxygen'.

A report by YOU magazine on Friday claimed that Joost had been on oxygen for a while but his family wanted to "keep it quiet".

Just hours before the report surfaced Joost's friends took to social media to call on people to pray for him.

A message posted to Joost's Twitter account on Friday afternoon moved to clear the air on the report.

Joost's estranged wife Amor Vitonne, who is currently in hospital after breaking her foot in a "freak" accident, last put images of herself and her children with Joost on her social media accounts during the festive period.
