Musician Brenda Mtambo has revealed that she can't afford to gain weight and is constantly watching the scale because of serious health concerns after a hospital scare late last year.

Brenda is a doting mother of two and told TshisaLIVE the love for her son helps her to stick to the "vigorous" health plan so that she doesn't go back to hospital again.

"My son is part of the reason I cannot afford too slag on my exercise and healthy eating. I have to live for him," she said.

The singer explained to TshisaLIVE that she already knew about the kidney condition that led to her being hospitalised in October last year.

She had been diagnosed a "while back" and was living with it until she gained weight post giving birth to her son.

"I ended up in hospital, mostly because I had gained weight [after my pregnancy] making it hard for my other kidney to function," she said.

Brenda said that she was "scared" but she trusted God for healing. The singer said she decided to share her health scare on social media because she doesn't see herself as a celebrity.

The I Love You hitmaker also added that in addition to eating a balanced diet and exercising, happiness is key to "staying out" of the hospital.
