Veteran actress Pamela Nomveta has had to deal with her fair share of creepy fans over the years and almost got police involved after being followed by a stalker.

Popular SABC 1 soapie Generations was rocked by a security crisis in the late 90s after actress Florence Masebe was injured in a shooting outside of her house, that left several of its cast members being offered private protection.

Speaking about the crisis during an interview with Anele Mdoda on Real Talk with Anele this week, Pamela said that she feared for her life at the time and was one of the cast members who advocated for private protection.

  • Pamela Nomvete on depression battle: I closed the curtain on my life and gave upVeteran actress Pamela Nomvete has experienced several hardships since bursting into the limelight on Generations in the 90's, including a period of serious depression and low self-esteem.

She said that among her concerns were neighbours who would always try to spy on her.

"It was insane! I would be outside and they would point. Someone would come knock on my door with their baby...so in the end it meant that I had to draw the curtains," she explained.

She also had to deal with a stalker.

"Not long after Florence's shooting there was a young man that was sort of communicating with me. I would get these texts and then he would call me. I remember saying, ‘you know what? I don't know what this is about or how you got my number but leave me alone.' I was in studio one day and they were doing my make-up and I heard this voice, and I thought, 'that's familiar'. So I turned to look and he spoke again and then came up to me and spoke to me. I thought 'Oh my word.'"

"So, I called the make-up lady and said 'Please get the security. This man has been stalking me and l can't believe he was in the make-up room,'" she explained.

  • Kelly Khumalo's film is going to CannesA locally-produced romantic comedy starring musician Kelly Khumalo is set to fly the South African flag high when it makes its international film debut at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.

She said that she brought the issue up with management but it was largely ignored.

A few months later she left the soapie to pursue an acting career overseas.
