During a sit down with Anele Mdoda on Real Talk with Anele, Zonke explained that in retrospect she realised she had a happy childhood despite her father, Vuyisile Dikana, being gone most of the time.

She added that despite not being physically present their father called every day and managed to keep them on their best behaviour.

"At no point did we not get along with my father, where we were not talking because we were angry because we understood that he did what he had to do to chase his dream. Just one phone call to my father was enough to make us behave. It was funny because he would be gone for 5/6 or 7 years at the time," she said.

The musician said their childhood sadness turned into inspiration as they grew up and realised that they wanted to follow in their father's footsteps.

"When we were younger we were sad. But as we grew older and wanted to venture into music then we understood why he had to leave. There were no studios near us [in PE] at the time, we knew that for him to record he had to go to Joburg," she said.

Zonke explained how she and her siblings were never angry at their father even though he would be gone for a long while due to his music.
