The number of Syrians who have fled violence in their country has risen to more than half a million people, the UN refugee agency said Tuesday.

Every day, 3 000 Syrian are arriving in countries in the region, the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said.

Besides the current 510 000 refugees, there are at least a quarter million more who have travelled to Turkey, Egypt and Lebanon but have not been documented there, according to government estimates from the three countries.
