Malaysia has banned the publication of a popular Japanese comic book due to elements that allegedly threatened public order, the state-run news agency said.

The Home Affairs Ministry said those caught publishing or selling the "Ultraman, The Ultra Power" could be liable to up to three years imprisonment or a fine of up to 20,000 ringgit (R65,378.96), or both, the Bernama news agency reported.

Bernama said the ban order did not say which part of the comic book was considered a threat to public order Ultraman is a fictional Japanese superhero who fights monsters, and first appeared on television in the 1960s.
