Cologne's Petit ruptures knee ligament

Cologne midfielder Petit ruptured the cruciate knee ligament in the Bundesliga finale and could face the end of his career, the local Express daily reported on Sunday.

Petit, 34, sustained the injury in the season-ending 2-1 victory over Schalke on Saturday and was taken out of the match in the 75th minute.

Petit, who won 57 Portugal caps, is expected to be sidelined for around six months.

His contract in Cologne expires after three years and he is yet to find a new club, a task possibly even more difficult now, given the injury and his age.
