Nigeria meets South Africa: Patoranking and AKA create magic on Coke Studio

Saturday night's episode of Coke Studio, which saw industry heavyweights Patoranking and AKA join forces, was nothing short of fire.

The third episode of the musical extravaganza had viewers jamming to the beat as AKA and Patoranking went through the creative process to create one banger of a track.

It was interesting to watch how two completely different and strong-headed artists combined their strengths to bring out a track entitled Special Fi Mi.

When hip-hop, reggae and dance hall merged - the end result was guaranteed to be a winner.

AKA's experimental nature came across right from the word go, giving Nigerian producer Gospelondebeatz a challenge to create a new sound.

Even though both AKA and Patoranking spoke about having 'writers block' an explosive beat from Gospelondebeatz had their creative juices flowing in no time.

During the creative process things got tricky when AKA wanted his rap to be on an Afrobeat, while Patoranking thought it sounded better on a 'trap' - it was the first time that the two stars clashed during their 48 hours together.

But at the end of day 1 in studio it all seemed to come together.

On day 2 things got off to a tricky start when producer Gospelondebeatz told the SupaMega that he had to rap on the track.

Naturally AKA was not impressed and refused to be put in a box, because he wanted to sing as he was having more fun. Another problem was that Patoranking wasn't feeling the vibe and 'collaborative' nature that the track was supposed to bring across.

In the end the beats flowed and AKA and Patoranking's 'Pan African' track had everyone wanting to hit the dance floor.

Raw artists Roxy and ABC Band fuse:

The most recent episode of Coke Studio also introduced up and coming artists Roxy and ABC Band to the nation.

17-year-old Roxy fused with ABC to create a track that has all the elements of an African pop melody.

But their fusion was not without drama when the team had to start working without Roxy who missed her flight to Johannebsurg from Cape Town.

So ABC Band and producer Wilson got started laying down some tunes to get started. The rest of the team faced feelings of anxiety of whether Roxy would approve of the beats, as time worked against them.

In the end Roxy, ABC Band and Wilson's fusion epitomised a fusion of different cultures, different cities and styles.
