Seasoned actress Mona Monyane recently reflected on a character she played on Wild is The Wind who she enjoyed bringing to life.

Taking to her Instagram timeline she shared the intricate parts that made her love the character and her layers.

“Abigail validated so much for me ... She is her femininity. Her vulnerability. She does not waver from her truth despite the pain the challenges bring. I allowed myself to surrender. No 'strong black woman' choices were made for this role ... Softness is what I chose. Softness so often untold,” she wrote.

The character is described by the director as the heart of the production who “undergoes a juxtaposition of going from true contentment and joy to her life taking a 360º turn due to a decision”.

Mona admitted to TshisaLIVE her character forced her to reflect on the journey that made her become who she is as a woman today.

“What was very challenging about this role is that scenes came up that touched home. I believe a lot of women are going to be able to relate,” she said.

“It was quite an experience to dial back to certain emotions. Yes, it's a different situation but at the end of the day we all know how it feels to be betrayed with somebody changing you or you are blindsided in a relationship.”

Mona said she felt the opportunity to play the character came at the right time for her after healing from her own scars.
