After taking time off to heal and process her life experiences, Mona Monyane has made a comeback on the upcoming Netflix film Wild is the Wind.

The actress plays the role of Abigail, a character described by the director as the heart of the production who undergoes a juxtaposition of going from true contentment and joy to her life taking a 360º turn due to a decision.

Mona admitted her character brought her into a reflective state of the journey that made her become who she is as a woman today, and feels it will teach many about self-assuredness and preservation.

“What was very challenging about this role is that scenes came up that touched home. I believe a lot of women are going to be able to relate,” she told TshisaLIVE.

“It was quite an experience to dial back to certain emotions. Yes, it's a different situation but at the end of the day we all know how it feels to be betrayed with somebody changing on you or you are blindsided in a relationship.”

Mona said she feels the opportunity to play the character came at the right time for her after healing from her own scars.

“It found me equipped because I have been intentional about healing myself and interrogating my own relationship with love. It was great to find her at this stage in my life where I'm aligned and self-assured.”

While she might have healed from her past having suffered lost her children (one through death and the other due to a miscarriage), and going through a toxic divorce, Mona said she found more healing from the character.

“I feel this character further healed me because her making the choices she did  reaffirmed that sometimes it's best to put yourself first and do what's right for you.”

Wild is the Wind will premiere on October 28 2022 on Netflix.
