Imagine you’re sitting at lunch enjoying that burger you’ve been craving all day when suddenly, your best friend appears, accompanied by cameras and Larry Nhlane and TJ Mkhwanazi from the Repertoires.

Your friend then challenges you to complete a crazy task and if you accept the challenge, you could win R2,000 on the spot.

From 11 June 2015, you could be watching this scenario play out in Vuzu Amp’s new game show, Down for the Guap.

The show will be hosted by the former reality TV stars and best friends Larry Nhlane and Thabiso Junior Mkhwanazi (TJ) as they set out to discover what crazy things people would do for R10,000.

The prize money doesn't come as a lump sum. A person first has to nominate a friend that they would like to complete the challenges with. The nominee is then compensated for accepting the challenge. If they tackle the challenge, they stand to win a further R3,000.

Contestants are then offered the chance to double their winnings by facing up against the hosts. If the hosts win, the money goes to charity. If the contestants win, they go home with R10,000.

Nhlane and Mkhwanazi have been very involved in the conceptualization, production, script-writing and even naming of the show so it is no surprise that they finally decided to make the jump from social commentary and reality TV to presenting.

Nhlane has always wanted to be a presenter and he once had his own show on Planet Radio TV in Nigeria. They only thing standing in his way was the fact that he hates auditioning.

"It’s mad dope now because I get to do it with TJ and everyone always knows that when we do social commentary it’s just me and TJ there wildin’ out and now were presenting and we get to wild out together” says Nhlane.

“Basically what he said, just cut in half” says Mkhwanazi with a laugh.

Their decade-long friendship has faced a lot of challenges but it has now become what Mkhwanazi calls a brotherhood.

The fact that they are such good friends also means that they know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and that’s why Nhlane thinks the show “is going to be pretty cool for us because we’re going to know who can handle what. Like I know he can handle some of the hard core things, me, give me the light stuff.”

The duo says that they are not going to go easy on anyone, they are currently “going extra hard in the gym” to ensure that they win the money for charity.

Friendship is a recurring theme in this show and it even comes across in the kind of hosts that were selected.

“We didn’t really have to look for hosts, [Larry and TJ] have featured on Vuzu quite a lot and they already had what we want” said Apollo Zake, General Manager at Launch Factory.

“Because the show [asks] ‘are you down for the guap?’ I think it goes beyond that. Like 'are you down for your friend?' 'so what are you willing to do for your friend?' At the show’s core, it’s about friendship and doing crazy things for your friend” says the show's creative assistant, Sello Sello.

“Visually, the show is just going to be crazy, there’s just so much comedy, lots of surprises, lots of drama, lots of jeopardy and I think the guys just bring all of that to life” said Zake.

Down for the Guap will premiere on Thursday, 11 June 2015 at 19:00 on Vuzu AMP, DStv Channel 114.
