It's been just over a week since news of Zulu's death sent shock waves through the entire nation.
Zulu will be laid to rest at Westpark Cemetery following a state funeral at the church.
The mood at the church is sombre as the funeral service gets underway. There is a giant-sized portrait of Zulu on a projector on stage, with beautiful white flower arrangements lining the front of the stage.
Close friends and family members are wearing bright yellow smile badges in remembrance of Zulu's infectious smiles.
Zulu's casket which has been covered with the national flag was carried into the church by pallbearers.
"We shall remember Gugu Zulu with pride, and a true good friend. We shall remember him as true citizen. It is people like Gugulethu who bring warmth into the world. His death is not in vain. We want the two families that are here today that your loss is our loss," said the Reverend at the opening of the service.
The JMPD choir started the service with a sorrowful hymn.
The racing car driver died last Monday while trying to summit Mount Kilimanjaro with Trek4Mandela to raise funds for sanitary pads.
