Today marks six years since Zoleka Mandela turned her life around to beat her alcohol and drug addiction.

Zoleka, who has been very open about the battles of her past, took to social media to celebrate how far she's come.

The socialite battled with a cocaine addiction for ten years and abused alcohol for 17 years.

"I'm so excited about celebrating my 6 yrs of sobriety today! My wish as I blow out the candles on my cake today will be that those reading my posts are reminded that it is never too late to rewrite their life stories."

  •

Zoleka added that after 10 years of using cocaine she had to change in order for things to start changing in her life.

She also recounted chilling memories of being sexually and physically abused, which she says does not define her.

  •

"The sexual and physical abuse of my childhood and teenage years does not define me, the addiction to sex, alcohol and drugs do not define me. Instead, these experiences for lack of a better word, have made me the woman that I am today, one who deserves a second chance."

Zoleka, who was recently rocked by a renewed cancer scare, is currently undergoing a series of chemotherapy treatments.
