Eighty people were injured, 11 seriously, when a bus they were travelling in overturned on the N2 highway in Amanzimtoti on Monday morning, says KwaZulu Natal paramedics.

The carrier, Siyaya Couches, was enroute from Queenstown to Durban, when it overturned near the Joyner Road offramp, Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said.

"The driver said that the front tyre blew out, causing him to lose control of the bus. It then overturned and landed on its side in the centre medium of the oncoming road."

The seriously injured included children, he said.

They were treated on scene for multiple injuries, before being transported to various hospitals in the Durban area.
