Two women believed to have thrown white paint over the Uitenhage War Memorial statue on Sunday were arrested on Wednesday afternoon. Both women – aged 28 and 29 years – live in Uitenhage and were arrested after a tip off to police. The women are expected to appear in court on Friday. This was not the first time that the war memorial statue‚ situated in Uitenhage’s market square‚ was vandalised. In April this year Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members allegedly attempted to burn the statue down.Earlier this year a series of statues throughout South Africa were defaced by EFF members‚ including the Horse Memorial in Port Elizabeth and the statue of Queen Victoria‚ which stands in front of the public library in Port Elizabeth. -RDM News Wire, The Herald..
