A KwaZulu-Natal mother flung herself and her two young children out of the moving car they were travelling in in a bid to save them.

The incident happened in Glenwood on Friday.

ER24 spokesperson Russell Meiring said the three, including a baby less than a week old, had been injured.

“Paramedics arrived on scene to find the bakkie parked on the side of the road while the mother and children were found sitting on the side of the road. On assessment, paramedics found that all three patients had sustained moderate injuries to their heads and arms,” he said.

“Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to King Edward Hospital for further treatment.

“The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle. The mother... managed to get the children out of the moving vehicle in an attempt to save them. The mother then apparently jumped out of the vehicle,” Meiring added.

The driver, a man, managed to stop the vehicle in time. He escaped without injury.
