Cape Town's booming film industry is gearing up to shoot the reboot of the Lara Croft franchise, starring Oscar winner Alicia Vikander in the role immortalised by Angelina Jolie in the first two movies. The Swedish actress, who won this year's best supporting actress Academy Award for her role in The Danish Girl, will work under a fellow Scandinavian, Norwegian director Roar Uthaung, when filming starts in February.Cape Town is the hot tip to host the movie after producers pulled the plug on Australia's Gold Coast in a row over inadequate government tax incentives.Cape Film Commission boss Denis Lillie said the availability of crew at Cape Town Film Studios due to the cancellation of the next season of Black Sails could be a factor in the decision."Mad Max: Fury Road did the same. It was supposed to be shot in Australia and it moved to South Africa and Namibia," he said."It's partly to do with tax rebates but also the exchange rate."Cape Town Film Studios general manager Makkie Slamong said "it sounds very exciting" but added that they were not "privy to that information".The new Tomb Raider, which will be a prequel exploring the origins of Lara Croft, is due in cinemas in March 2018...
