South Africa's Premier Soccer League kicked off in August - but South Africans appeared more interested in the European leagues according to Google.

A trend cluster is a group of search terms related to a specific topic - and out of the "28 trend clusters that related to football, 16 related to European football vs 12 relating to the game at home", Google said in a media statement.

The fight between Chelsea's doctor Eva Caneiro and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho seemed to attract the most eyeballs, with their names appearing on three separate occasions.

Caneiro has been banished from the touchline, from the team hotel and from the training ground by Mourinho for responding to Chelsea's star player, Hazard, lying injured on the pitch during an English Premier League match.

With Chelsea drawing 2-2 with Swansea City, the interruption by the doctor and the team physio deprived Chelsea of a quick counter-attack, a winning goal - and Chelsea's first win of the season. Or so Mourinho believed.

Said Mourinho: "Even if you are a medical doctor or secretary on the bench, you have to understand the game."

The Springboks are currently prepping for the Rugby World Cup - and Google only recorded three clusters related to Rugby.

Aside from Sports, South Africans were interested in Ashley Madison, Standard Bank's online outage, and Naspers' Showmax launch.
