Making its South African debut in Grahamstown, the Extra- Ordinary relationship between British-based David Toole – whose lifeless legs were amputated when he was a toddler – and Rhodes University-trained Lucy Hind is challenging people to reflect on their own insecurities and prejudices.
“It still freaks me out when I think about how my legs were amputated when I was 18 months old, but the reality is they were of no use to me,” he told the Dispatch. “I probably would be sitting in an office today – instead of acting and dancing.”
Although a natural “show-off” who excelled on stage during his school days, the 45-year-old acclaimed actor and dancer initially chose the safety of a career in the British postal system after he finished school rather than follow his dreams.
