KZN cop was 'drunk behind wheel'

A KwaZulu-Natal cop was so drunk that, as he sat behind the wheel of his police vehicle, bystanders had to splash his booze onto his face to wake him. Once awake, the officer, without a moment's hesitation, drove off.This is the allegation made by Kokstad resident Ben Heydenrych on Facebook on Saturday night."On my way to Scottsville Junior School, Pietermaritzburg, to drop my son off for athletics, we passed a police van," wrote Heydenrych on Saturday. "Inside a policeman was passed out . a bottle between the legs and blue lights on. After screaming at him to wake up, no luck. I phoned the police."But, Heydenrych said, no one arrived."Two men arrived. They hit him [the officer] in the face, but he still did not wake up. One man then took the Savanna from his lap and splashed him with it."He drove away in this van, drunk," said Heydenrych.Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker forwarded Heydenrych's account to the Plessislaer cluster commander...
