Patient admitted for heart, renal failure found dead in bathtub at Helen Joseph

The Gauteng Department of Health on Monday said it will probe the “mysterious death of a patient” who was “found in a bathtub with severe burns to the face‚ parts of left thigh and leg”. The discovery of the 35-year-old deceased woman at Helen Joseph Hospital in Auckland Park was made on Sunday.She had been admitted on Friday‚ along with a three-month-old baby‚ and according to the “hospital’s records the patient diagnosis was heart and renal failure”.The health department said the deceased had been “seen about 15 minutes” prior to the discovery of her body by nursing staff.“The deceased was found by another patient in a bathtub‚ who immediately called in nurses‚” a statement said.“They pulled her out of hot water which was less than one-third full in the tub and rushed her to bed for resuscitation. A doctor was called and initiated resuscitation without success.A post mortem will be requested to determine the cause of death‚ and the deceased’s baby will be handed over to the next of kin.“Our prayers are with the family of the bereaved during this time of grief. The investigation will help us ascertain what led to the incident‚” said Gauteng health MEC Qedani Mahlangu...
