Sars sniffer dog uncovers R500,000 worth of drugs at OR Tambo
A South African Revenue Service (Sars) Custom Control dog sniffed out two consignments of drugs worth more than R500,000 at OR Tambo International Airport on Monday. The first was 77 1kg blocks of compressed cannabis - valued at R107,800 – in a parcel “declared as Citronella Scented Wax Melts” en route to Budapest; the second was R484344 worth of heroin in the lining of a box filled with clothing destined to Amsterdam.“In both instances‚ the dog indicated something was amiss when he sat down next to the parcels which were then selected for inspection at two courier outlets‚” Sars Sandile Memela said.Elsewhere‚ a Malawian taxi passenger was busted carrying heroin worth R788,900 at Golela Border post in Kwa-Zulu Natal.“The man was travelling from Mozambique when all passengers were asked to disembark for their bags to be inspected. One abandoned bag was stripped open and heroin weighing 1.127kg was found‚” Memela said.The man was handed over to the police in Pongola. ..
