#FundingFutures aimed at issues around historical debt

The University of Cape Town’s Student Representative Council (UCT SRC) which “given the national crisis of student funding for tertiary education…is committed to decreasing financial barriers to entry at our university”.“In addition to our commitment to free education in our lifetime‚ the UCT SRC recognises the need for immediate financial intervention‚” a statement on Wednesday said.“In response to the call for greater access to our university‚ the 2016 SRC are embarking on a national fundraising campaign under the banner #FundingFutures to provide financial relief to students who are unable to register due to historical debt.”The first planned activity of the campaign will be a “phone-a-thon” to contact UCT alumni via telephone between the February 3 and 10.The student body said the “campaign is endorsed by the university’s vice-chancellor‚ Dr Max Price…the Department of Development and alumni”.The #FundingFutures will be officially launched on Thursday. ..
