Body of drowned man found by off-duty lifeguard

The body of a 20-year-old Somali man who drowned at Strand Beach in the Western Cape was discovered by an off-duty lifeguard who was surfing in the vicinity‚ the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said. An extensive air‚ sea and shoreline search was launched on Thursday afternoon after the man was reported to have disappeared under water while swimming at the beach.It was suspected that the man might have ended up in difficulty after being caught in rip currents.“The Police Dive Unit‚ assisted by NSRI Gordons Bay‚ recovered the body of the man from the surf and the body has been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.Family of the deceased man are being assisted by police trauma counsellors‚” the NSRI said‚ adding that police had opened an inquest docket...
