Prisoner on verge of completing his sentence escapes from EC prison

A Middledrift Correctional Centre inmate‚ Mzwandile Mpukwana‚ 44‚ who was serving a seven-year sentence for housebreaking and theft‚ escaped on Thursday. According to the Department of Correctional Services‚ Mpukwana was sentenced on September 18‚ 2010.“The last time he was seen‚ he was with a group of 10 offenders working at the garden within the correctional facility precinct. Our security officials‚ together with the police‚ are on the lookout for the escapee‚” spokesperson Zama Feni said.“If anybody happens to see a suspicious-looking person in your community or anywhere‚ then they are encouraged to call or report the matter to the nearest police.“We find it shocking that someone who was on the verge of completing his sentence and due to be released in September could engage himself in an activity of this nature.”An internal investigation into how the escape took place will be undertaken. – TMG Digital/The Herald..
