Lion Park rape suspect nabbed in Operation Paseka

Operation Paseka saw the arrest on Sunday morning of a man suspected of raping a 26-year-old Lion Park woman in January. The taxi driver was among the 65 suspects taken into custody in Diepsloot over the weekend‚ Gauteng police said in a statement.“The alleged rape incident took place after the victim had boarded a taxi driven by the 35-year-old suspect on the Old Pretoria Road during a night during the month of January‚” it said.“It is reported that after a passenger had alighted from the taxi‚ only the victim remained at the mercy of the taxi driver.“He drove to a spot near Lion Park Informal Settlement (Thabo Mbeki)‚ where the victim was allegedly raped. After the incident‚ the woman escaped by jumping out of the taxi while it was in motion.”Police said she had on Saturday night “noticed the suspect in a tavern at Muldersdrift and informed the police”‚ which led to his arrest early on Sunday morning.The other arrests over the weekend for “offences like possession of dagga‚ illegal gambling‚ possession of unlawful ammunition and fraud”.All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court soon...
