It's a delicious irony. When you apply for a job in online retailer Yuppiechef's customer service department, you have to submit a handwriting sample.That's because the customer service team, currently numbering 16, spend part of their day handwriting personal thank you notes to customers, who have ordered goods online - the notes get added to the parcel before being dispatched to the couriers.The notes used to be included with every purchase, but now only with first-time orders and those who haven't ordered for a while.That's partly because orders have increased and they don't want hand-written cards to hold up delivery, and partly because the company felt the novelty would wear off for regular customers, and worse, may be perceived as a contrived marketing gimmick.Customer service head Sam Sabbagh gets to decide that a larger percentage of cards go out, on any given day, and she dials it up or down as she sees fit.And it isn't only the customer service team who get to put pen to paper for Yuppiechef customers. The entire staff gets a turn from time to time, even the CEO...
