Two-day water shutdown in Johannesburg is cancelled - for now

A major emergency shutdown announced by Johannesburg Water‚ which was to affect multiple suburbs including Bryanston‚ Randburg and Linden for two days starting tonight‚ is no longer going ahead. "It has been cancelled until further notice‚" Johannesburg Water announced on its Twitter feed‚ without further explanation. Earlier on Thursday‚ the city’s technicians were called out to repair a pipe burst in Diepsloot.Johannesburg Water said: “Diepsloot & Extensions: Please note there is a major burst at corner William Nicol drive and Ngonyama Str (Diepsloot ext2) at the bridge. The depot will isolate water by 2pm this afternoon. All extensions of Diepsloot will be affected. The approximate completion time is 10pm this evening. All streets will be affected by this pipe. We apologise to those who will be affected by this."The reason residents in the north-west suburban belt were to have no water was for technicians to repair “a burst within the chamber” in Windsor. The shutdown time had been given as from 7pm on Thursday 11 August to 6am on Friday. Restoration was to commence from 6am “until late” on Friday 12 August...
