Refugee centre goes hi-tech

The Marabastad Refugee Reception Centre in Pretoria is going hi-tech to clamp down on corruption and overcrowding. The system, starting in just over a month, will enable applicants to use their fingerprints to access the centre and its services.Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba said yesterday the system would be paperless.With the new system, officials who in the past could manipulate the process would now be prevented from allowing applicants to jump the queue.A report by Lawyers for Human Rights singled out the Marabastad centre last year as the most corrupt in the country. ..
