Telly chef rabbits on about bunny chows

We've eaten them after late-night clubbing, or on a Sunday afternoon while watching the waves roll in, but now the humble bunny chow will be among local foods in the spotlight in a new television series. British celebrity chef Matt Tebbutt is set to unpack the history of South African grub from bunny chows and koeksisters to Cape Malay curries and mopani worms in his new television series, Taste of South Africa.Tebbutt, who is renowned for UK shows like Food Unwrapped, Great British Menu and Saturday Kitchen, will host the new 10-part series, which will be shot in January and will be broadcast later in the year on DStv.Producer Rebecca Fuller-Campbell says the show will follow Tebbutt as he travels across South Africa "discovering and exploring the diversity and flavour of local foods that the southern tip of Africa has to offer".Tebbutt's food sojourn will allow him to sample regional specialities and lift the lid on dishes and drinks that are steeped in heritage and culture."Part of Matt's quest will be to trace the history of the ingredients and dish itself," said Fuller-Campbell.Tebbutt recently made good use of his geographical knowledge while filming Kings of the Wild, a food and travel show for the Discovery Channel."To explore, learn, taste and understand such a totally diverse country such as South Africa is a really exciting prospect," said Tebbutt."I want to meet the people behind the food to learn about their rich history and culture, to drink, laugh and embrace life and food like they do."Fuller-Campbell added that South Africa provided an "engaging environment" in which to pursue the love of food...
