Xenophobia report not ready for Parliament

Parliament’s investigation into the spate of xenophobic violence earlier this year will not be ready on time. Parliament announced on Tuesday that its Ad Hoc Joint Committee on Probing Violence against Foreign Nationals was meant to report to the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces Houses (NCOP) by September 30.“But due to outstanding issues that still need to be reconsidered‚ the committee will need more time to consider and adopt the report‚” a Parliamentary Communication Services statement said.The statement said the committee will request both houses “to extend the reporting deadline”.“The committee could not consider and adopt the report today as a result of the sitting of the NCOP at the same time and the National Assembly is continuing with oversight visits in different parts of the country‚” it said...
